Obligatory “lack of updates” update

By mike

My little friend the treeI’ve found that two things get in the way of updating this site: skiing and starting a new job. I mean, being married and having a very active dog and wife and it being prime motorbike weather doesn’t usually put as much of a crimp on at least posting some new pics of the most recent ski season, but with this new position I’ve most definitely stepped into the major leagues. I’ve been working on an ESX deployment that takes virtualization to an entirely new level that I’ve never experienced before – DRS, HA, NetApp NFS storage with snapshotting, and much much higher uptime expectations from my customers. It’s exciting, if terrifying at the same time. ;)

New layout for motogobi

By mike

Yeah, Anna’s going to kick me for changing it (again) but I was a little disappointed with the layout of the previous motogobi theme. This is a little more clean, a little more readable, and those annoying blue borders around linked images are gone in IE. Plus, this is what I do – I mess with things… :)

Our dog, chicken bone ninja.

By mike

The large piece Anna removed by force and by the passing light a car’s headlights last night standing by the side of the road. The smaller piece Thatcher gave up after a tasty tasty hydrogen peroxide cocktail.

Hooray for the Bantz Canine Surgery Avoidance Response Team of Mike and Anna. :-)

WordPress updated, travel map added…

By mike

Unlike the last time I updated WordPress, where I pretty much wiped out the entire uploads section of my website, you shouldn’t notice much of anything. I did, however, add my TripAdvisor travel map (to be updated often, hopefully!). We found that TripAdvisor was a really good resource on our most recent sojourn to Costa Rica, and almost all of the people we ran into there that were from abroad did as well. One of those ideas that you wish you had thought up…

Ah, springtime in Colorado.

By mike

When allergies bloom and so do tornadoes? Let me just say that this morning was a little nerve-wracking. Coming back out to Erie today, the skies were clouding up – which is odd. Afternoons are usually t-storm time. While out walking Thatcher, we had to turn back because of the big, fat raindrops starting to fall. Followed closely by the hail:

What passed too-uncomfortably-close-by was a pack of tornadoes, apparently:

Seven reports of tornadoes touching down have been received from the following locations:
- Laramie, Wyoming
- Windsor
- 2 miles northwest of Milton
- Platteville
- Gilcrest
- 3 miles east of Milliken
- 8 miles west of Greeley
- 4 miles west of Dacono

Do you know what was 9 miles west of Dacono? Thatcher and I. Like I said, waaaaaaay too close for comfort…

So proud!!!

By mike

…and, she’s DONE! May 9th, 2008 marked Anna’s commencement ceremony. My mom was in town, and we all met up with Mary, Bob, Jessie and Zondra to watch Anna don her cap and gown and join the ranks of the CU Boulder alumni.

To allow more family to join us in celebration, we had the full-on grad party the following day, Saturday.

New domain: motogobi.com

By mike

For a long time now, I’ve wanted to move away from the planetbantz.com domain name. At the time, it was almost a joke – something incredibly ego-tastic and very DotBubble (as I was working for, at the time, a company that would ride that bubble for a while until it laid me off).

So was on the road for a while last week…

…and had a bunch of time to think about things. Where I’m going with my career. What kind of work I’d like to do (I get tired of tech tech tech all the time…). How to save money for things like a house with a yard for our dog. And one of the things that popped into my head was the combination of a nickname I’ve got, “Gobi” and my love of things powered by motors – thus, motogobi.

Probably more than you needed to know. Just change yer email address and your bookmarks for me.
